LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Indiana lawmakers are considering whether or not to give legal protection for Christmas in the classroom.

The Senate Education Committee unanimously passed a bill Wednesday that would legally protect schools and teachers who want to celebrate the holiday at school.

It would allow schools to decorate with Nativity scenes and other Christmas decorations, as long as other religious or secular holidays are recognized.

The bill would also allow religious displays on town and city properties.

Now it will go to the full Senate for consideration.
