LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- On June 3, 2011, Lauren Spierer, a student and Indiana University, disappeared after a night out with friends in Bloomington.Â
She was never found.Â
With the fifth anniversary of her disappearance approaching, the Bloomington Police Department released a statement discussing the status of the investigation. According to the news release, more than 3,500 tips have been received, documented and investigated. The release mentions numerous searches, including searching a landfill.
"The number of regular duty hours associated with the case cannot be quantified and the Department has documented over 2,505 hours of overtime for personnel since the beginning of the investigation," according to the release. (See the text of the full release below.)
