LOUISVILLE, KY (WDRB) --- The Olympics may be in London this year, but BMX riders are gearing up right here in Louisville. Saturday was Olympic Day at the BMX track at E.P. "Tom Sawyer Park.

Riders took to the tracks to commemorate the founding of the modern Olympic Games back in 1894.

Riders are hoping that Saturday's free event would attract new people to the sport.

"Kids as young as three can race, we got some out here that just got off his training wheels, and we have one guy that's almost 80-years-old. He's still out here racing," said Chandler Spencer, rider.

"You don't sit on the bench like in basketball or football. Everybody gets a chance to race. And it's like, individually, like you don't have to depend on other people," said Alton Scales-Conklin, rider.

Derby City BMX hosts similar races every weekend.
