LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Planning a house remodel in the upcoming months? Be on the lookout for lead paint in your home.
The EPA says millions of homes still contain dangerous lead paint.
If your home was built before 1978, it could have a danger lurking beneath the paint.
Aaron Grant works in the homeowner's business and has to be the bearer of bad news when his inspectors find lead paint in homes.
"You shouldn't have to worry about lead hazards here in your home," Grant said.
Lead-based paint was banned by the government in 1978, but it is still around today.
The older your home is, the more likely it is to contain lead-based paint.
If you are planning a renovation to an older home, Grant recommends to have the paint tested beforehand.
Test kits are available at hardware stores and they are rather inexpensive. But, it is safer to hire a professional.
"We are preventing health issues down the road, that can contribute to learning disabilities or other health impacts," Grant said.
Stay safe and test your paint, that way you don't waste your money.
