LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The swing to full-time remote work is over, and Forbes reports remote jobs are down 25% this year.

Fewer companies are offering remote and part-time remote jobs this year. But some companies are still hiring remote jobs.

Keri Shinault started working from home when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. She doesn't want to return to the daily commute.

"It was two hours a day," Shinault said. "Driving, it was a disaster."

Since she no longer has to commute, she can spend more time with her children and painting.

"I love that it is flexible," Shinault said. "I have a better work life balance than I ever had."

Forbes reports 23% fewer listings for full-time remote work than in the spring of 2023. Many companies have shifted to hybrid work, requiring employees to be in the office for 3-4 days per week, while working at home for one or two days.

Some school districts are moving to four-day in-person school weeks, with Mondays being remote. North College Hill City School District Eugene Blalock said teachers and students like what the school district has done.

"My teachers have been reignited, it's been interesting as I talk to them as I walk around," Blalock said.

With fewer full-time remote jobs this year, employment attorney Kelly Myers said people should search for hybrid jobs.

"Come to your employer with the business justification of why working from home is good for the company, and good for you," Myers said. "Make it a win win."

The website Flex Jobs lists companies still hiring remote workers including Working Solutions, LiveOps, CVS Health, Kelly Services, UnitedHealth Group and Zillow.

But competition for those jobs can be tough. Forbes said twice as many people are looking for remote work.
