LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Plans for a new neighborhood around Louisville Slugger Field were recently announced, and the excitement is quickly building.

The $250 million project, wedged into a parking lot just east of the baseball stadium and southwest of the Interstate 65 interchange, calls for 225 apartments, a boutique hotel with 170 rooms, office and meeting spaces, retail shops, a new entrance to Slugger Field and on-site parking.

Greg Galiette, president of the Louisville Bats, visited WDRB Mornings on Wednesday and said he can already feel the energy.

"We're in such an early stage of this, but boy it would create a lot of excitement downtown," Galiette said. "As a native Louisvillian who lived through the Redbirds but also the opening of Slugger Field, I'm already feeling the energy in the last 24 hours that we kind of felt when we opened Slugger Field."

The project would also add more parking for fans to come to Bats games, with the addition of parking garages.

If approved, construction could start in December 2025.
