Moving on from Highland Coffee controversy

Louisville, Ky (WDRB News) -- The local owners of the Highland Coffee Shop say business is back to normal after a few slow months.

There has been some resolution to the battle over signage between the coffee shop and the new Urban Outfitters Store on Bardstown Road in the Highlands.

The troubles for the small coffee shop, owned by the husband and wife team of Greg and Natalie Hofer, began when Urban Outfitters took over a sign that used to be out in front of the shopping complex. "Having a big sign taken away created a lot of questions from our customers as to if we were still open," says Greg Hofer.

As a result, Hofer says, business was down for a few months. But Hofer says business is back to where he thinks it should be. "We want to let people know we are not gone, we are still here and thriving," he says.

The coffee shop will soon have a new, if smaller, sign out front, paid for by Hofer's landlord.

It will be at the entrance of the parking lot to the shopping center. But it will be at ground level and only about three feet high. However it will be lighted at night.

The Hofers have tried to keep a sense of humor during their trying times and have come up with new T-shirts to sell to local customers. The shirts say "I know where Highland Coffee is."

"It is just a great way to make light of the situation," says Hofer.

He's glad the worst is over and is looking forward to concentrating on other aspects of running a small business.

He says, "We've been here 13 years and we hope to be here another thirteen."
