New owner of Salem Speedway has big plans for the historic racetrack

SALEM, Ind. (WDRB) -- The Salem Airport was sold as part of a package sale of the Salem Speedway, and the new owners plans to combine the two to make a much larger entertainment complex.

Richard Deeton, general manager of the Salem Speedway, said the track's races make up a "who's who" in racing history. It's one of the most historic race tracks in the country, according to Deeton.

"You go back several years to the Andrettis" and other racing legends.

Racing fans might recognize some of the drivers who have raced at the track, including Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson. And fans might recognize the name of the track's new owner.

Bo LeMastus is the CEO of Crosley Brands, which makes radios and Jukeboxes.

"He says we are going to be more than just an oval track," Deeton said of LeMastus.

LeMastus flew the Crosley private plane back from meetings in Florida to reveal his plans to WDRB News. He said he will mix his two passions at the Salem Speedway: racing and music.

LeMastus could bring more motor sports to the Speedway, such as motocross and possibly drag racing on the airport runway.

There will also be a music venue for big-name bands and artists, like Kid Rock.

LeMastus said he will keep the name Salem Speedway around, but it will have another name, too.

"It will be Crosley Field," LeMastus said.

He hopes it's a shot in the arm for the Speedway and the region. There are plans to significantly increase the number of events held at the track each year.
