LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Churchill Downs makes history.

Today marked the start of the September meet, the first time there have been three different meets in a calendar year.

Churchill Downs say the horsemen are excited.

They'll be able to stay in the state and race for prize money that's comparable to the spring and fall meets.

The question is whether fans will bite.

Racing will take place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday this month.

Two special Downs After Dark events are scheduled, one tomorrow night and another on September 28th.
