LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A community Narcan box was recently installed in Bardstown.

According to a news release Monday, Lincoln Trail District Health Department partnered with Nelson County Addiction Response to place a naloxone box at First Christian Church of Bardstown. Naloxone is a medication used for emergency treatment of a person believed to be overdosing on opioids.

The new box is stocked with Narcan kits and directions for prevention and response. Betty Hart, a Bardstown City Council member, said 60 people have died to overdose in the last six years in Nelson County.

"Having Narcan easily and anonymously available to our community members is truly a blessing," Hart said in a news release. "It is our hope and prayer that those suffering from the disease of addiction will know that their community cares for them and this will be a step in the direction of hope and healing."
