LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 19-year-old man is in custody after he allegedly shot and killed his brother and wounded a 70-year-old woman in New Albany on Tuesday evening.
Police arrested Andreas Bautista not long after the shooting that left his brother, 24-year-old Antonio Bautista, dead and another woman injured. It happened about 8:10 p.m. April 15 in the area of Wolfe Trace.
In a written statement Monday night, Bailey said the incident started on Lynn Road, which is not far from Wolfe Trace off of East Daisy Lane and Grant Line Road. Andreas Bautista "shot his brother Antonio Bautista during an altercation," according to the release.
A 70-year-old woman who lives in the neighborhood was apparently walking her dog when she was hit in the leg by gunfire. She was taken to UofL Hospital downtown, where she is listed in stable condition, according to the release.
Andreas Bautista was initially charged with murder and aggravated battery. His first hearing was scheduled for Wednesday morning in Floyd Superior Court.
Michelle Anderson, who lives on Wolfe Trace Court, said the sound of gun fire rocked the typically quiet neighborhood.
"Those kind of things don't happen in our neighborhood, maybe down the road, but not in our neighborhood," Anderson said. "The house vibrated and we heard a lot of blasts."
She said multiple shots were fired.
"We didn't know at the time there were gunshots, it didn't sound like it because it was so loud and the house vibrated," Anderson said. "But then once we realized what it was, then we just couldn't believe it."
Anderson said she saw the 70-year-old woman.
"She was crunched down behind the small van, and I didn't see the person laying on the ground, but I saw her crunch down, and then I saw a car speed away," Anderson said.
Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call New Albany Police at 812-944-6411 or the tip line at 812-948-NAPD (6273).
