LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB/WAVE) — A 16-year-old boy was found shot to death Tuesday afternoon in Louisville's Park DuValle neighborhood.

Matthew Sanders, a spokesperson for Louisville Metro Police, said officers responded to a field in the 3600 block of Bohne Avenue after a body was found. That's behind Carter Elementary School off Bohne Avenue and near Russell Lee Drive.

Police said a boy was dead and had an apparent gunshot wound. The mother of the boy identified him Wednesday as 16-year-old Alfred Smith.

LMPD's Homicide Unit is investigating.
