LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Customs and Border Protection officers in Louisville seized more than $9.5 million worth of fake jewelry in one night.
On Monday night, officers at the Port of Louisville intercepted two packages containing more than 3,300 pieces of counterfeit designer rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings. The items had false trademarks of famous luxury brands like Gucci, Cartier, Van Cleef and more.
"These large seizures illustrate the work our officers do every day to protect our country, its citizens, and the economy," LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke, director of field operations for the Chicago Field Office, said in a news release Thursday. "Our officers are dedicated to preventing counterfeiters from defrauding consumers and legitimate businesses."
Both shipments came from Hong Kong. One was going to Florida, and the other was going to California.
Experts said if the jewelry had been authentic, it would have been worth $9.58 million.
