Former Indiana attorney accused of stealing more than $1 million

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A former Madison, Indiana attorney is accused of stealing more than $1 million.

John Eckert is charged with 20 counts of forgery, eight counts of fraud, one count of theft and one count of corrupt business practice.

Investigators say Eckert illegally took the money from his aunt's estate and his cousins' trust funds.

He is also accused of stealing money from his brother by using money placed in a law firm account for his personal use.

A Jefferson County, Indiana deputy clerk told WDRB that the charges stem from incidents that allegedly happened between 2010 and 2014.

Eckert was taken into custody in Texas and is being held at the Dallas County Jail on a $1 million bond.
