LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Indiana mother is charged with the murder of her 2-year-old daughter, Fox59 reported Thursday.

Indianapolis police initially charged 33-year-old Chantell Gardner with neglect. According to her arrest report, she admitted to leaving her 2- and 3-year-old children home alone most of the time and only checking on them once a day to feed them.

Investigators said they found the 2-year-old girl, Skyler dead Saturday.

Police also found rotting food, feces on the walls and furniture, and trash all over the apartment.

According to court documents, Skyler had bruises on her body and a large puncture wound on her neck. Police believe she died of hypothermia.

The prosecutors office also charged 39-year-old Brian Thomas, Gardner's boyfriend, with assisting a criminal after he was accused of lying to investigators.
