LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB/WKYT) — A man who won $167 million in Kentucky Powerball was indicted after allegedly leaving the scene of a 2025 crash.

James Farthing was indicted by a Fayette County Grand Jury on charges of wanton endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid or assistance.

According to the indictment, on Nov. 23, 2025, Farthing "wantonly engaged in conduct" which created "substantial danger of death of serious incident."

Police said Farthing was driving over 100 miles per hour when he rear-ended another car.  After the crash, Farthing allegedly abandoned his car and ran away from the accident.

Farthing won a $167 million Powerball jackpot after buying a winning ticket in Georgetown last April, the largest prize ever awarded in Kentucky at that time.

This is the third time Farthing has been arrested since his lottery win.

He was arrested in Florida in May 2025 for allegedly assaulting a police officer during a bar fight, and arrested again in February of 2026 for intimidating a participant in the legal process in Scott County.

Farthing is set to be arraigned in Fayette Circuit Court Aug. 7.
