LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A mother and son from Georgetown, Kentucky, will split a $167.3 million Powerball jackpot.
In a news release Monday, the Kentucky Lottery said Linda Grizzle and her son, James Shannon Farthing, will share the jackpot, after he purchased the $2 winning ticket for Saturday's Powerball drawing. It's the largest prize ever awarded in Kentucky.
The pair arrived at the lottery headquarters in Louisville Monday morning.
"It’s going to be a good Mother’s Day," Grizzle said. "This is going to pay off my debt." She also plans a trip to Ireland.
Grizzle told the lottery that she called her son Sunday when she thought that she had the winning ticket. She said he rushed home, and they went back to Clark’s Pump N Shop on Connector Road to double check.
"I would have never dreamed it; it hasn’t sunken in yet," she joked.
The winning ticket matched all five white balls and the Powerball from the drawing on Saturday, April 26, 2025. The Powerball numbers were 1-12-14-18-69 and the Powerball was 2.
Grizzle and Farthing haven't decided whether to take their winnings in 30 payments over time or the cash option, which would be $77.3 million minus taxes. They are consulting a financial adviser before deciding.
Clark’s Pump N Shop in Georgetown will receive more than $37,000 for selling the winning ticket.
This is now the largest Powerball jackpot ever won in Kentucky. Previously, the largest Powerball win was a $128.6 million jackpot sold in December 2009, also at a Georgetown retailer: ProTravel Marathon.
According to the Kentucky Lottery website, there hadn't been a big jackpot collected in Kentucky since there were two in 2010.
In January 2010, a Georgetown couple, Rob and Tuesday Anderson, won after a clerk at the Pro Stop Marathon incorrectly printed a Powerball ticket for Rob on Christmas Eve 2009. The mistake ticket ended up hitting the game’s $128.6 million jackpot.
In December 2010, Knott County native and Louisville resident Muncie Meade won the Powerball worth $19.12 million. That ticket was sold in Simpsonville.
