LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- More than 250 guns have been taken off the streets of Louisville so far this year in just one part of the city.

Louisville Metro Police praised its First Division officers for their efforts in a Facebook post Tuesday afternoon.

According to city data, about 30,000 people live in the city's First Division—which covers the Butchertown, downtown Louisville, Phoenix Hill, Portland and Russell neighborhoods.

LMPD said getting illegal guns off the streets is making a real impact, helping drive crime down and making neighborhoods safer.

Along with the 250 seized guns, police have also confiscated drugs. LMPD said the seizures are a testament to proactive policing.
