LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Metro Police Department has released the name of the officer who shot a man earlier this week in the city's Wyandotte neighborhood.

The department said O'Sha Rogers shot Jaron Bobbitt after police said he pointed an "AR-style pistol" at officers and refused to drop the weapon.

It happened near Wyandotte Park Monday afternoon. Police had responded to a domestic violence call in the 1000 block of Beecher Street, near Camden Avenue.

LMPD Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel said Bobbitt had a gun and ran from officers when they showed up. According to court records, officers told Bobbitt to drop the gun, but he pointed it at an officer — identified Thursday as Rogers — who shot Bobbitt.

Bobbitt was taken to the hospital, but has since been released and booked into Louisville's jail downtown. He appeared in court Wednesday on charges of wanton endangerment of a police officer and being a convicted felon in possession of a gun.

He pleaded not guilty to those charges.

LMPD said Rogers just graduated from the academy in August, and has no history of complaints.

Video from the shooting should be released sometime next week. Per LMPD policy, when there is a police shooting, footage from officers' body-worn cameras is typically released within 10 days.
