LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Louisville man is charged after police said he followed and shot at another car Tuesday.
James Jones III, 34, is charged with wanton endangerment, tampering with physical evidence, and being a felon in possession of a gun.
According to his arrest citation, a witness, who happens to be a Louisville Metro Police detective, heard shots fired in the area of East St. Catherine and S. Floyd streets Tuesday morning. Then, the detective saw the two cars, a silver Chevy Equinox, driven by Jones, and a grey Jeep Cherokee, exchanging gunfire.
In the citation, the victim said Jones followed him to the Valero gas station on East St. Catherine Street, thinking Jones wanted him to pull over. When the cars pulled into the gas station, Jones started shooting at the victim's Jeep Cherokee, who returned fire through their own windshield.
Jones fled before the detective could make contact at the gas station, stopping in the 1300 block of Bardstown Road. His citation said Jones threw the gun he had in a trash can, and then called police. Police determined Jones was involved in the incident at the Valero.
No one was hurt during the incident.
Jones pleaded not guilty in court on Thursday and is being held in Metro Corrections on a $25,000 bond. Jones is due back in court on March 28.
