LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A former Kentucky pastor will spend more than 2 years in federal prison for fraud and tax offenses.
58-year-old Marvin Upton was sentenced to 2 years and 3 months in prison for three counts of bank fraud and three counts of filing false tax returns. There is no parole in the federal system.
Upton was a pastor at Crofton Pentecostal Church in Christian County, Kentucky, just north of Hopkinsville.
Authorities said between 2013 and 2016, Upton defrauded an elderly parishioner who suffered from dementia and submitted multiple false tax returns.
In addition to prison time, Upton must also pay $500,000 in restitution to the victim's estate and $222,037 to the IRS.
