LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Kentucky man was arrested after police learned his wife's body sat in their home for months after her death.
John Emrich, 59, was arrested June 19 and charged with abuse of a corpse.
According to court documents, Emrich told a deputy from the Hardin County Sheriff's Office conducting a welfare check his wife passed away in February. Police said Emrich failed to notify authorities of her death, and her body was still in the home at the time of the welfare check.
In his arrest citation, the sheriff's deputy said Emrich "intentionally treated a corpse in a way that would outrage ordinary family sensibilities."
Emrich appeared in court for his arraignment June 22, and Judge Deborah Lewis Shaw set his bond at $5,000 cash. He remains behind bars at the Hardin County Detention Center.
