LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville homicide detectives are investigating after a body was found in a home after a fire in the Beechmont neighborhood early Monday.
According to a news release from Louisville Metro Police, firefighters found a man with a gunshot wound while responding to a house fire in the 1100 block of Bicknell Avenue, near Peachtree Avenue, around 8:10 a.m.Â
Louisville Fire & Rescue Chief Brian O'Neill said the first units arrived at the scene about four minutes after the call came in.Â
"We immediately made an aggressive interior attack to search for victims," O'Neill said. "One victim was removed right away as soon as they got in through the front door. That victim is deceased. There will be an investigation that LMPD and Metro Arson will be doing together on that."
LMPD's Homicide Unit is working with Louisville Fire & Rescue's Arson Unit as the investigation continues. No further information is available at this time.Â
"Anytime there is a fatality that takes things to a different level so we have to try to preserve the scene as best we can to assist arson and LMPD," O'Neill said. "But again as you can imagine, a fire scene is difficult, it's dirty and our members have to make sure it's under control."
O'Neill said it took 25 firefighters about a half-hour to get the flames under control.Â
