LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A shooting victim who showed up at UofL Health's Mary and Elizabeth Hospital early New Year's Day is expected to survive.

It happened around 12:30 a.m., according to a news release from Louisville Metro Police. That's when officers with LMPD's Fourth Division were sent after reports that a man with a gunshot wound to the leg checked himself into the hospital.

Medical staff provided first aid before transferring him to UofL Health Hospital downtown with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, according to the release.

Members of LMPD's non-fatal shooting unit spoke to the victim there. He told investigators he had been shot in the 800 block of Denmark Street, which is in the Wyandotte neighborhood.

It has been a violent and deadly New Year's holiday so far, with three shootings in less than 24 hours: a woman was killed outside the McDonald's on East Market Street around 10:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve. A few hours later, around 2 a.m., another woman was shot at the American Legion Post on Greenwood Avenue and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Anyone with information on any of these cases is asked to make an anonymous call to LMPD's Crime Tip Line at 502-574-LMPD (5673). Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the department's online Crime Tip Portal by clicking here.
