LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville police said a man died Sunday morning after he was hit by two cars while trying to cross Bardstown Road.

Dwight Mitchell, a spokesperson of Louisville Metro Police, said officers responded around 4:49 a.m. to the 4500 block of Bardstown Road, just north of Breckenridge Lane, after a reported collision involving a pedestrian.

Police said the man wasn't on a crosswalk when he tried to walk across Bardstown Road and was hit by a southbound car. And then second car hit him while he was still on the ground, LMPD said.

The driver of second vehicle stopped and called 911.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the man Monday morning as 29-year-old Kevin Mutabazi. He died on the scene from blunt force injuries.

LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating and asking for any information on the first vehicle that hit the man, which fled the scene.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call LMPD's anonymous Crime Tip Line at 502-574-LMPD (5673). Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the department's online Crime Tip Portal by clicking here.
