LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) — A man was charged in connection to a May shooting in Louisville's Parkland neighborhood after he turned himself in Friday, police said.

Tayden Brown, 18, is charged with first degree assault and tampering with physical evidence.

Louisville Metro Police responded to a report of a shooting a little before 4 p.m. May 9 in the 2700 block of Hale Avenue, said department spokesperson Adam Sears.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a man who had been shot in the chest. He was taken to UofL Hospital with what police said at the time were non life threatening injuries.

According to Brown's arrest citation, he met up with the victim that day to sell him a handgun for $500.

Police said during the sale, the two had some sort of "verbal exchange" when Brown allegedly pulled out the gun, demanded the victim to get out of the car, and fired two shots, hitting the victim in the chest.

Police said the victim underwent emergency surgery and sustained a serious brain injury that required long term rehabilitation. He spent several months in hospital, according to court documents.

According to the citation, Brown deleted text messages him and the victim exchanged before the shooting, kept his vehicle hidden and was "no longer in possession of the handgun."

Police initially issued a warrant for Brown before he turned himself in.

Brown is currently in custody at Louisville Metro Corrections. He pleaded not guilty Saturday morning and Judge Yvette De La Guardia set a $10,000 bond.
