BRANDENBURG, Ky. (WDRB) -- Meade County High School officials are investigating whether a student brought weapons to school on Jan. 29.Â
In a letter sent home to students, parents and the community, Superintendent John D. Millay, Ph.D. says the school received an anonymous phone call on Jan. 30. A student apparently was trying to sell a BB gun.Â
The district says it conducted a home visit and then called in local law enforcement. Â It says the weapon, a Crossman CO2 BB/Pellet handgun, was found at the home of the potential buyer. The student also had a hunting knife. Â
The school says based on what they discovered, they don't believe the student involved planned to hurt anyone. They believe the exchange was about arranging a sale.Â
Meade County Schools said the matter is being handled by police. Criminal charges are in the process of being filed.Â
The district also reminds parents in a posting on social media to ask students about reporting weapons or school safety violations to teachers or administrators.Â
