LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A New Albany man who was shot by police after officers said he attempted to hit them with a car twice will spend more than a decade in prison.
Sebastian Beck pleaded guilty to three charges of felony attempted aggravated battery and one misdemeanor domestic violence charge.
Early on a Saturday morning in September 2020, police responded to reports of a disturbance at 109 Gordon Drive, off Green Valley Road. Officers found Beck, 28, who police said "presented an immediate threat to responding officers."
Officers said they tried to deescalate the situation, but Beck continued to resist. He then got into a vehicle and drove toward one of the officers, police said. Indiana State Police Sgt. Carey Huls said the man driving the car tried to run over the officer twice. The officer jumped out of the way on the first occasion and fired shots the second time the vehicle came toward him.
Beck was shot, police said, and then the vehicle hit a building at the 4H Fairgrounds on Green Valley Road.
In court Thursday, Beck was sentenced to 16 years, with 12 in prison and four years of probation, according to Floyd County Prosecutor Chris Lane.
