LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man is dead after he was shot by an off-duty Jeffersontown police officer late Tuesday morning.

It happened around 11:25 a.m. in the 10000 block of Robsion Road, near Chambers Way and Billtown Road, according to Jeffersontown Police Chief Rick Sanders. During a news briefing Tuesday afternoon, Sanders said police received several phone calls about a man "knocking out windows and acting strangely."

An off-duty officer in the area responded to the scene and confronted the individual, before at least one shot was fired, killing the suspect, who has not yet been identified. The officer, who was not injured, then called for backup on his radio.

It happened around 11:25 a.m. near Billtown Road.

Sanders said he didn't know if the suspect had a weapon. He also said the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team will be leading the investigation and collecting any video evidence from surveillance cameras in the area.

Sanders said more information, including the officer's name, will be released when it becomes available.

Police said there is no danger to the community as the investigation continues.
