LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — An Indiana man is charged with impersonating an Indiana State Police officer to get a locket full of cremated remains back from Arizona.

ISP said William Salyer, 62, of Salem, called an Arizona man back in July. Salyer left two voicemails with the man, saying he was an ISP detective.

In the voicemails, Salyer allegedly said he would contact Arizona State Police for theft charges if the man did not return a locket that was mailed to Arizona.

ISP later found out a woman living in Salem was having an online relationship with the Arizona man, and mailed him a locket containing a small amount of her dead son's ashes to bury on a Native American reservation.

After calling Salyer back, the Arizona man got suspicious and reported him to state police in Sellersburg.

Washington County Sheriff's officers arrested Salyer on Thursday. He is being held in the Washington County Jail, and charged with two felony counts of impersonating a public servant.
