LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A teenager died after he was hit by an off-duty Louisville police officer in an unmarked vehicle Wednesday night in the city's Portland neighborhood.
Louisville Metro Police Spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said it happened around 8 p.m. at 24th and Bank streets.
Police believe the officer was traveling eastbound on Bank Street when he hit a teen in the road who was not in the crosswalk, Mitchell said.
The pedestrian was transported to University Hospital where he later died. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 17-year-old Clay Twyman.
LMPD's Traffic Unit is handling the investigation.Â
