LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized three shipments of counterfeit jewelry that, if real, would have been worth more than $18.6 million.
CBP officers at Louisville's Worldport seized the three shipments on Dec. 5 and Dec. 8 shipped from Hong Kong and Taiwan, the agency said in a news release on Wednesday.
On Dec. 5, two shipments from Hong Kong, one headed to a residence in Staten Island, New York, and the other headed to Irving, Texas, were seized. In the first counterfeit shipment, 400 Cartier watches, 26 Moncler hats and 30 Chrome Hearts hats were seized. In the second shipment, eight Cartier and 13 Audemars Piguet watches were found.
In the Dec. 8 shipment from Taiwan, CBP officers found 80 fake Rolex Cosmograph watches and 80 Rolex Day Date watches headed to Houston.
As the holiday shopping season continues, CBP reminds people to buy from reputable retailers and be cautious of deals that seem too good to be true.
