LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A crash involving a JCPS bus and an SUV in the Phoenix Hill neighborhood sent seven students to the hospital Tuesday.
It happened around 9:40 a.m. near the intersection of Barret Avenue and Baxter Avenue, according to a news release. That's where officers from LMPD’s Fifth Division were sent after receiving reports of a collision.
The preliminary results of an investigation indicate an SUV driven by a man with no passengers was southbound on Baxter Avenue when the SUV approached the intersection. The SUV was in the process of making a right hand turn on Barret when JCPS Bus No. 1737 "apparently pulled out in front of the SUV," causing the collision.
There were 40 students aboard the bus. Louisville Fire and Rescue and EMS were sent to scene and provided first aid. Seven students on the bus were taken to Norton Children’s Hospital. Their injuries aren't considered life-threatening, according to the release.
The driver of the bus was uninjured; the driver of the SUV was checked out by EMS on scene.
LMPD's Fifth Division is handling the investigation.
