LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Families of Jefferson County Public Schools students have been invited to share their views about the district's student assignment plan.
The discussions will take place during a series of four community listening sessions over the next two weeks.
According to a news release from JCPS, those listening sessions will be held at the following times and locations:
- Thursday, Nov. 8, at Southern High School at 8620 Preston Highway at 7 p.m.
- Saturday, Nov. 10, at Central High School at 1130 West Chestnut Street at 1 p.m.
- Monday, Nov. 12, at Valley High School at 10200 Dixie Highway at 7 p.m.
- Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Ballard High School at 6000 Brownsboro Road at 7 p.m.
The district reviews the student assignment plan every five to seven years.
A committee of parents, teachers, principals, district administrators and community representatives will attend the listening sessions to witness the comments. After the comments are heard, a recommendation will be provided to the Jefferson County Board of Education in 2019. A survey will be distributed community-wide at a later date, and any changes made to the student assignment plan would be in place by the 2020-21 school year.
"Ensuring that our student assignment plan supports students in the best ways possible is a priority for me as superintendent, and the input of our families and stakeholders is an important part of that process," said JCPS Superintendent Marty Pollio, in a statement. "Just like forums previously held around our innovative Backpack of Success Skills initiative or our bold new racial equity policy, we always want to make sure we're listening to our community before decisions are made."
