LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police and a local foundation teamed up to help students stock their home libraries.

The Addie and Baylor Foundation partnered with LMPD to provide books to children at Byck Elementary School. More than 300 students attend the school, and each one picked three books to take home.

"All kids love a Scholastic Book Fair," said Lauren Kirchgessner, who runs the foundaiton with her husband. "We remember them when we were little, but, sometimes, kids don't have the money for the book fair. It's a perfect time to do it, because summer is coming up. They can build their home libraries."

The foundation is named after Addie and Baylor Kirchgessner, who were killed in a car crash while on a family vacation. The two young children loved to read, so now their parents honor their legacy by giving out books to other children.

Overall, the foundation will give away around 1,200 books Monday and Tuesday at Byck Elementary.

More than 55,800 books have been distributed, and the foundation wants to keep going strong.
