LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The search for a new superintendent of Oldham County Schools is down to two candidates.Â
The board has selected Dr. Nick Carter and Mrs. Claudette Herald, a district spokesperson said in a news release Tuesday.Â
Carter is currently the superintendent of Breckinridge County Schools in Kentucky, a role he has held since 2017. He was named 2025 Kentucky Superintendent of the Year by the Kentucky Association of School Administrators (KASA).
Carter, who has been in education for more than 20 years, started as a high school social studies teacher and coach. He has also served in many administrative roles, including elementary assistant principal and principal of Breckinridge County High School.Â
Herald has served for the past eight years as Deputy Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent/Director of Pupil Personnel for Grant County School District. She also serves as District Safe Schools Administrator, ensuring a secure and safe learning environment for all students. Additionally, Herald is the district's Homeless Liaison and Foster Care Liaison.Â
The board said Tuesday it appreciates the community's patience as they hire a new superintendent, which is "the most important task."
Current superintendent Jason Radford told the board last October that he would not renew his contract in 2025. Radford took over as the district's superintendent in 2021.Â
The board said it will hold more interviews with the two candidates before making a final decision this Friday, May 30.
