LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The countdown to kindergarten is on, and around 800 future JCPS kindergartners are learning the in's and out's of school by attending the annual Ready4K camp.
The summer program is now in its 11th year.
It helps students with all aspects that come with starting school, like learning how to ride the bus and walk quietly in the hallway. It also introduces students to letters and numbers.
Carlisa Gibson, the executive director of Early Childhood Education at JCPS, said taking away the fear of starting school is one of the many benefits this camp offers.
"Just looking at that data, we have shown just through that data, that our students that attend camp, they do score higher on that Bergan's Assessment whenever they take that once they start kindergarten. Another thing, too, is our students walk in more confident, they are open to following directions and along too with those academic skills being a little bit more strengthened than they were before they came here over the summer."
Classes resume for JCPS students on Aug. 7.
