LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Western High School is preparing to become a STEM magnet school next year.Â
The curriculum will include gaming design, eSports and programs to train students to operate drones and robots. Western is also in the process of renovations to make STEM labs more open to allow for more collaboration.
On Thursday, Jefferson County Public Schools Superintendent Marty Pollio showed up at the school to visit a model classroom similar to what the school will look like next year. Students were also there, trying out the new technology.Â
"When kids are excited about something, they get to school early," Western High School Principal Michael Kelly said. "You can't run them out of the building half the time. They are really involved. That's the key is about engagement, and we'll have lots of opportunities to be engaged."
Kelly said the magnet program will also include an advanced computer science course and a culinary food science program.
