Outdoor Alert Siren

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- With severe weather looming across Kentuckiana, emergency officials in Crawford County, Indiana, are warning residents that two of its tornado sirens aren't working.

Friday, the county's Emergency Management Agency said in a Facebook post the sirens in the Leavenworth and Carefree areas are "not working at this time due to mechanical issues."

Officials said the siren in Carefree has only been in service for a few months after it was damaged from storms last year and had to be replaced. They believe the Carefree siren has a bad charger, and said they submitted a repair request. They hope the company is able to repair the siren at the beginning of next week.

EMA officials noticed the Carefree siren wasn't working during last week's statewide siren test.

The siren in Leavenworth has "bigger" issues and is expected to be out of service longer. EMA officials said the siren is older and has been repaired several times. It was also working until it failed during the statewide test last week. Officials said that may have been caused by a failure of the main computer board, which "can happen at any time."
