LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A historic surprise was waiting within the walls of a Hardin County government building.

The Hardin County Chamber of Commerce found a tattered paper hidden inside the walls of its building. A contractor who is renovating the building noticed a broken glass jar with a time capsule inside behind the bricks of an outside wall.

The capsule was placed there when it was built originally as city hall. The capsule included items like an old Kentucky post card, tickets to the Elizabethtown Fair in 1906 and some old newspapers.

Elizabethtown Mayor Jeff Gregory found a mention of his great-great grandfather in one of the articles.

The Chamber of Commerce plans to get local historians involved to help with the preservation.
