LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Static's Louisville.

The city dedicated a banner Friday to the singer, songwriter, rapper and music producer Stephen Garrett, better known as Static Major.

The Hometown Hero banner now hangs on the side of the Roots 101 African American Heritage Museum. It's right around the corner from Muhammad Ali's banner.

Major died in 2008 and his loved ones spoke about his legacy Friday.

"He produced music for lots of artists and they would be in awe because he never wrote anything down," his widow, Avonti Garrett, said. "They were a star to us and he was a star to them."

Major wrote and produced for Lil Wayne, Jamie Foxx, Missy Elliott and Destiny's Child.
