LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and on Saturday, hundreds of people walked in support of finding a cure.
Many of them wore pink and met at Louisville Slugger Field for a time of remembrance, hope and support.
The "More Than Pink Walk" helps raise critical funds that allow the Susan G. Komen Foundation to continue with research.
Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women in the U.S.
Those who walked did it in honor of loved ones — many currently fighting the battle themselves — while others have already conquered it.
"So important, so important," breast cancer survivor Sherri Randolph said. "There's so many women who have it. There's so many women who are going to get diagnosed this year and we've got to find a cure. We've got to find a way to prevent it."
WDRB sponsored the walk, and anchor Fallon Glick was one of the emcees.
The foundation had a goal of raising more than $180,000.
