Charlestown all-inclusive park - 10.24.23

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Children in Charlestown, Indiana, now have a new playground that can accommodate everyone.

Tuesday, city leaders held a ribbon-cutting and free community cookout at Greenway Park, located off Market Street, across from the city square.

The City of Charlestown transformed the park, replacing aging 20-year-old equipment and installing a new state-of-the-art all-inclusive playground for children of all abilities. The park is both wheelchair- and walker-friendly.

A $150,000 Pathways to Progress grant from the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana made the new playground possible.

"We want to be welcoming and that means removing barriers that keep people from feeling welcome and that's one thing this playground does," Charlestown Mayor Treva Hodges said.

The park is open daily from dawn until dusk, and the gate is locked after hours.
