LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --Â The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is sponsoring the seventh nationwide "Prescription Drug Take Back" initiative this Saturday, October 26.
According to a news release from the Indiana State Police Department, the "Take Back" initiative is designed to help prevent prescription drug abuse and theft. Collection sites will be set up nationwide for expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs to be disposed of for destruction.
This service is free and anonymous with no questions asked. The only restriction: new or used needles will not be accepted. This program is intended for liquid and pill medications only.
Last April, Americans turned in 371 tons of prescription drugs at over 5,829 sites operated by the DEA and its thousands of state and local law enforcement partners.
The Drug Take Back events have proven to be a popular and safe method for the public to legally and safely dispose of prescription drugs that are no longer needed or have expired.
If you'd like to participate in this take back program , simply drop off your unwanted drugs for disposal at any Indiana State Police Post throughout the state (except the Toll Road) between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. (In Dubois County there will be two additional sites - one at the Ferdinand Fire Station on Fourth Street and one at the Huntingburg Fire Station on First Street; these two sites will be open from 10 a.m. to noon).
