MT. WASHINGTON, Ky. (WDRB) — Neighbors in a quiet Bullitt County neighborhood are dumbfounded after police said a man killed his wife inside their home Friday night.

Neighbors on Williamsburg Court in Mount Washington said they can't believe it because the husband always seemed so nice.

A neighbor's Ring camera caught video of Richard Chesher and his wife Bonnie picking up their DoorDash order Wednesday from their neighbor's house after it was delivered to the wrong address.

Around 9:22 p.m. Friday night, police were called to the Cheshers' home, which is now a crime scene.

"If he could do it to his wife, when would he do it to someone else?" a neighbor down the street asked.

Chesher, 67, was booked into the Bullitt County Detention Center around 3:45 a.m. Saturday and charged with murder-domestic violence, tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse.

According to Bullitt County on-call coroner Sam Billings, Chesher used a piece of wood to kill his wife, Bonnie.

Billings said Chesher started to move his wife's body from the home to the back of his truck. Authorities said boards had been arranged from the garage floor to the bed of the truck like a ramp.

According to court documents, Chesher was found with blood all over his clothing, hands and face. Chesher also tried to close the garage door when he saw officers.

Someone called 911, and, when police arrived, they found her body in the garage wrapped in a garden hose.

Court documents claim her face and head were unrecognizable due to how badly she was beaten.

The neighbor who lives down the street said she knew the couple, interacting with them often. She said she saw police and emergency responders from her Ring camera Friday night.

"There were two ambulances, fire from Mt. Washington and like eight police cars," the neighbor said.

In the neighborhood where each house is marked by a name, several people declined to speak about the incident. Others sent their love to the family.

"It's concerning," one woman who lives across the street from the Cheshers said. "I'm very sad for the family and the neighborhood."

That neighbor from down the street said Chesher was always so nice, adding that she never noticed anything off between the couple. She's now in total shock after learning more about what happened.

"I feel better that he's locked up because you just don't know," the neighbor said. "You think you know someone kind of and then you see something on the news. It's just eye opening what people's true colors are."

Chesher is being held in the Bullitt County Detention Center. He was arraigned in court Monday where his bond was set at $1 million.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, March 17.
