LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- JCPS is speeding up the application process. Parents now must start thinking about where their children will attend the following year.
Instead of waiting until February to apply for elementary schools, parents can apply right after the showcase of schools in November and find out what cluster school they get into much sooner.
JCPS officials say this will open up more seats in cluster schools, and help both teachers and parents can plan for the next school year
In the past, parents applied to a magnet school and a cluster school. Many times both schools accepted the student, who was taking up two seats.
Dena Dossett, JCPS Director of Planning, says, "Now what we're going to do is we're going to process those magnet applications first. We're going to call parents and send a letter saying the student has been accepted. If they say yes great I want to go there, then they won't be processed with the rest of those cluster applications."
This year, middle and high school applications will be accepted beginning Oct. 29, and elementary applications will be accepted beginning Nov. 19.
The deadline for all applications is Jan. 11.

Also new this year, parents can register and apply for schools online. If you don't have Internet access, the school will set up registration sites.
