LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The deadline for residents to pay their 2025 Jefferson County property taxes is quickly approaching.
Property taxes are due by the end of business on April 15. Taxes not paid by that date will be considered delinquent and transferred to the Jefferson County Clerk's Office for collection.
Once property taxes are delinquent, they are subject to 40 percent in extra fees, penalties and monthly interest. Delinquent accounts may also be sent to the Jefferson County Attorney's Office for collection.
In addition, a lien could be placed on your property, and that lien could be sold to a third party at the Clerk's annual tax lien sale in July. Third-party purchasers can add significant fees and unpaid liens could lead to foreclosure.
"You avoid penalties and you protect your property by paying your property taxes before April 15," said Jefferson County Clerk David Yates.
You can pay your taxes 24 hours a day online or drop off payments in the Sheriff's Office drop boxes at Jefferson County Clerk offices throughout Louisville, no postage is required.
