LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A deputy from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department died of an apparent heart attack Wednesday afternoon while on duty, according to a spokesperson for the department.

Lt. Col. Carl Yates told WDRB News that Deputy David Brown, age 58, suffered chest pains while on court security duty at the Hall of Justice in downtown Louisville.

He died at 12:02 p.m. at Jewish Hospital.

Yates said Deputy Brown went into cardiac arrest as medics were taking him to the hospital.

Brown's death is described as an "on-duty death," the result of an apparent heart attack, Yates said.

Brown recently celebrated his 20th anniversary with the sheriff's department.

He leaves behind a son and daughter.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete Wednesday night, Yates said.
