LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --Ā Congressman John Yarmuth stopped byĀ Rutherford Elementary School on Wednesday to show support for the Head Start program.
Head Start is an early childhood education program that helps low-income students prepare to start school.Ā The program has been hit-hard by national budget cuts.
More than 800 children will lose access to Head Start in Kentucky, and nearly a hundred of those will be in Jefferson County.Ā Yarmuth said, "This is not federal spending. This is a federal investment. These are investments into kids' lives that will turn them into productive citizens much more easily. It demonstrates I think the foolhardiness of the sequestration."
Yarmuth has been a long-time supporter of government funding for Head Start and other early childhood programs.
