LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky has been given the green light for an Expedited Major Disaster Declaration from the federal government.Â
That means public assistance from FEMA will be available for local governments and individuals in 10 counties impacted by flooding.
Those include Breathitt, Clay, Harlan, Knott, Lee, Letcher, Martin, Owsley, Perry and Pike counties.
"This support will be a big help for our families and communities as they recover and rebuild from yet another terrible storm," Gov. Andy Beshear said in a news release Monday. "Just like before, we will get through this—together. And I promise that we will be there as long as it takes—until every life and structure is rebuilt."
The flooding and cold temperatures that followed last week are now responsible for 22 deaths in Kentucky.
Beshear launched a Team Kentucky Storm Relief Fund to raise money for families who are rebuilding. So far, more than $300,000 has been raised. To donate, click here.
